Sunday 7th August 2022.
An all-day guided walk within the Ancient Parish of Chaldon, on which we visited some of the notable local holes in the ground – both large and small. As well as seeing those that are visible, an explanation was given of when and why they were dug and what was taken out of them or what was put in them. Dene holes and chalk pits were included, and drains and water storage. Most were man-made, but we also covered some natural history features.
The walk started and finished at the church, where teas and cakes could be purchased at the end of the walk.
