Zoom talk by Liz Bonsall & Madeline Hutchins: 4pm, Saturday 20th February
On the theme of local history in the landscape, this talk explored and explained the various concrete structures in and just outside Chaldon that have a history to them. Some are obvious and very visible, such as the Ockley Hill Trig. Point on the North Downs Way and the tracks on Alderstead Heath. Others may have been past unseen, or seen and not known for what they are. What about the lines of concrete fence posts round Happy Valley and the concrete channels by paths across the golf course?
Learn where there was a problem with pig slurry, when there was a compulsory purchase of Green Belt Lands to preserve open space, what a flush bracket is, and what ran in those concrete channels on the golf course.
Over forty people joined the Zoom talk and, after costs, it raised over £140 for the Friends of Chaldon Church.
