This was not a talk but a drop in session giving the opportunity to pore over old maps of Chaldon (with explanatory notes provided) and to browse house sales particulars from the past. Together these gave a fascinating picture of Chaldon and its development over the years. Mostly covering the 19th and 20th century, there were a few earlier maps and estate sales particulars from the 18th century.
Organised by Liz Bonsall and Madeline Hutchins, with maps from the Caterham and District Local History Centre.
41 people attended the afternoon session and there was a great atmosphere and many interesting conversations. The proceeds (after costs were deducted) were given to the Friends of Chaldon Church, to help with the care of its historic building, this was £172.
